East at Large in The Loire!

The author limbers up for another hard day at the office..

After three years of  living half-way up what passes as a mountain in the Finistere department of Brittany, the Easts  have de-camped and moseyed on down to the Loire Valley, the setting for the next French Impressions book.

Other people might have found a normal run-of-the-mill place to live; the Easts have once again found somewhere rather special. The nearest village to their hamlet of three dwellings is dominated by an enormous chateau which puts Disneyworld to shame for over-the-topness...and (believe it or not) is owned by an American as the ultimate in holiday homes.  For more details and regular blogs from George, visit George in the Valley of the Kings.

French Impressions making an Impression!

The latest book in the East stable has proved a big hit for faithful fans, and is already in second printing. Here's what some readers are saying:

'Brittany is a  wonderful mixture of peace and vigour, of beautiful landscapes and cultural liveliness. George writes about Brittany with his usual honesty and humour.'

'This is a lovely book. Easy and entertaining to read, it nevertheless gives lots of useful information and insight into what you will find if you visit Brittany.'

'The French Impressions title is very apt. The book is like coming across the brightness of an impressionist painting after a museum full of the sombre art which some travel books seem to be.'

Book Reviews - Your chance to be a critic and help the cause!

On the subject of critical acclaim, you can help publicise the new French Impressions book and/or  the  Mill of the Flea series and other books by George East by becoming a critic. Many book-selling sites on the web offer copies of the series, and some- like Waterstones, Amazon and Bol - offer readers the facility to record their thoughts in the form of a review. If you have a minute, please visit a suitable bookseller’s site and tell other readers what you think about a specific book and the Mill series as a whole. Reviews do help sales, and enable Donella to feed her wildlife flock and George to go on ‘research’ expeditions to local bars even more frequently! Thanks.

French Kisses

The Little Englanders will hate it. Another one to get up the noses of the boring old farts who look only for a corner of little England when they venture overseas. George does it with such affection that even the bad times feel tolerable. We did it the wrong way round and decided to live in France before we had read George's series in detail. I can only echo the laughs, the frustrations, the disasters and the triumphs of coming to terms with a culture that is geographically so near to but spiritually so far from the UK norm - which is precisely why we like it. George has captured it perfectly.

More magic moments from rural France The latest commentary on George and Donella's life in rural France and the way they interact with its people and customs. Sometimes sad, frequently hilarious but always well observed and wittily recorded. Having just finished reading the book I know that by tomorrow I will be forced to start reading it again!

A warm, and witty story, beautifully written. I spent the nearly the entire time reading this book falling about laughing and wishing I had this man's gift for story telling, and as a result, bought everything George has written. George gives life and depth to the characters he encounters in Normandy, and involves you in their triumphs and tragedies so that they become as real to you as your friends. His dealings with the wily fox of the Cotentin, alias Rene, are very well written and funny, and occasionally, just occasionally, will bring a lump to your throat.
